Event photos on WhatsApp: guests find theirs with a selfie
A wedding produces thousands of photos and every guest wants the few they are in. How a studio can let guests find them with a selfie, and hear on WhatsApp.

Building the platform this article is about

A wedding, a college fest or a company offsite ends with a few thousand photos and a few hundred guests, each of whom wants the dozen they appear in. The usual answer is a shared drive link and a lot of scrolling, followed by WhatsApp messages to the photographer asking “can you send mine?”.
Ohanvi’s Events module, built for studios and event organisers, turns that around: guests find their own photos with a selfie, and hear on WhatsApp when new ones of them are ready.
How a guest finds their photos
The studio shares a link or a QR code. A guest opens it, confirms their WhatsApp number, and takes a selfie: just them, facing the camera in good light. Face search matches it against the event’s photos and shows the ones they are in.
From then on they see each photo as soon as it is released, and get a WhatsApp message when they are in one. A guest can ask for no more WhatsApp messages about the event, and can delete their selfie and data at any time; their selfie, their face match and their place in the gallery are removed.
Four ways in, set by the studio
The standard link asks for a WhatsApp number, then a selfie. A PIN link swaps the number check for a gallery PIN the studio sets. A VIP link is selfie only, with no number. And an open link shows every photo to anyone who has it, with no number and no selfie, for the events where that is what the host wants.
Each link can be switched on or off, and guests who verify show up on the Guests tab.
From camera to gallery
Photos can be uploaded in folders, or sent straight from the camera. Add a camera in Ohanvi to get an FTP login, type it into the camera once, and from then on you only pick which event it sends to. Each camera gets its own folder.
The studio decides what guests see. Photos can be held for review first and released when the studio is happy with them; only released photos trigger the WhatsApp message. A watermark with the studio’s name can go on the copies guests see, downloads can be the original file, a 1600px copy, or switched off, and face-match strictness is a setting: stricter means fewer wrong faces, looser means a guest misses fewer photos.
Why WhatsApp is the right channel for it
Guests do not install an app or remember a password. Their WhatsApp number is the login, and WhatsApp is where they already are when the photos come in, days after the event. For the studio, every guest who verifies is a contact with a number, on the same record as any enquiry they send next.
